Abstract. The scour phenomenon that occurs can be caused by the morphology of the river itself and the structure that blocks the flow of water, such as a bridge pier that can change the flow pattern in a river, and changes in flow patterns will cause scouring. One method to reduce scouring around the bridge pier is to consider the design of the bridge pier. One of the most popular shapes of the pier is the oblong shape, as used on the Ciujung bridge. According to past studies, the oblong shape is not the most effective shape to reduce scour depth. In this study, nine pier bridge models will be compared, namely oblong, lenticular, and elliptical along with 2 streamline modifications for each shape on the flow velocity and scour depth using FLOW-3D numerical modeling and empirical equations. Based on the analysis, the elliptical shape without streamline modification is the most effective shape to maintain the stability of the flow velocity around the pier, and the oblong shape streamline modification is the most effective shape to reduce scour depth.
