Numerical Modelling in Hydrology and Hydraulics

Numerical Modeling is a technique to tackle complex hydrological and hydraulic problems by
computational simulation.

The presenter will explain from his practical experience, how river basin numerical models are
developed through the following key processes of the hydrologic cycle:
(i) meteorological processes, which are evaluated through historical trends of atmospheric conditions
and future climate change estimates by using land-based and satellite-based technologies.
(ii) rainfall-runoff processes, which are evaluated using statistical and physical models in the context
of hydrologic modelling to better represent the hydrologic cycle, and
(iii) runoff to riverine hydraulics processes, which are evaluated using models through the
characterization of land use, land cover, soil, geospatial sciences and some of the critical social,
environmental, demographic and economic conditions in the context of hydraulic modelling.
