Water resource engineers help plan for water use and treatment. Water resources engineer jobs are found in local, state or federal government agencies and in private corporations. They usually spend most of their days planning and mapping for a specific location’s water needs, and may need to occasionally travel to more accurately assess the local water resource situation.

Water Resource Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Design and oversee the construction of water supply systems
  • Oversee the construction of sewage treatment systems
  • Conduct field tests
  • Develop plans for controlling water resources
  • Calculate the impact of dams and reservoirs
  • Develop computer models
  • Develop systems to protect water resources during storms
  • Research ways to increase the water supply or conserve water
