The Civil Engineering Study Program was established based on the establishment decision letter No: 55/D/O/1996, dated August 8, 1996. Currently (2020) the Civil Engineering Study Program only holds regular programs, with the number of active students. as many as 498 people. Until September 2020 when this document was submitted, the number of students who graduated in 2020 was recorded at 11 people, where this number does not represent all graduates in 2020 because the graduation period is still ongoing until December 2020. The Civil Engineering Study Program was accredited by BAN PT for the first time in 2002 with a C predicate. Then the next accreditation in 2005 and 2010 with a B predicate. At the last accreditation in 2015 the Civil Engineering Study Program was accredited A with a score of 367 in accordance with the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education No. 972/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IX/2015 September 3, 2015. On August 19, 2020, the Civil Engineering Study Program at Bina Nusantara University was accredited Superior through BAN-PT decision letter No. 4797/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-Itnl/S/VIII/2020.

To ensure the quality of graduates, in 2014 the Civil Engineering Study Program applied for international accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The accreditation process took place from early 2014 to mid-2015. The result obtained for this accreditation is a 6-year fully accredited Civil Engineering Study Program issued by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET on August 4, 2015. Graduates who get recognition for fulfilling learning outcomes in accordance with ABET criteria, namely graduates who graduate on April 1, 2015 and so on. In addition, in 2018 the Civil Engineering Study Program received General Accreditation (GA) accreditation from IABEE with Accredited status for a part-time period of 3 years. 

The Civil Engineering Program at Bina Nusantara University follows the vision and mission of the university and faculty, where the curriculum is designed by the faculty to prepare students to become successful, good and ethical Civil Engineering graduates. This curriculum is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge, skills and abilities with current environmental and social concerns needed to work professionally or pursue postgraduate studies. The total number of curriculum credits in civil engineering study program is 146 which are divided into two types of courses, namely compulsory and elective. From this composition, the curriculum in the Civil Engineering Study Program is grouped based on groups of fields of study. The composition of each field is mathematics and natural science related programs with a composition of 23%, engineering topics which consist of engineering science and civil engineering design with a composition of 62%, and a general education component with a composition of 15%.

The basic components that become reinforcement in the curriculum are subjects that fall into the mathematics and natural sciences groups. In the Civil Engineering Study Program curriculum, the total credits for this course are 34 credits or equivalent to 23% of the total credits. Subjects belonging to this field are calculus 1, calculus 2, engineering mathematics 1, engineering mathematics 2, physics 1, physics 2, civil engineering chemistry, and statistics, numerical analysis and geology. To provide experience in the field of civil engineering design related to the fields of structure, geotechnical, transportation, water, and construction management is measured through courses on theory and planning of concrete structures, foundations, highway engineering, and construction management. In addition to this course, there are also advanced elective courses in each field that students can choose to support the success of learning outcomes related to identification, formulation, and solving problems taken in the thesis course. In supporting students’ ability to conduct experiments in the laboratory to obtain material data needed in the design, students carry out experimental activities in the laboratory to then interpret the results of laboratory data and analyze the results.

To provide an understanding of the ability to be responsible to society and comply with professional ethics in solving technical problems, the ability to understand the need for lifelong learning, including access to knowledge related to current issues that are relevant, and to work across disciplines, work courses are given practice. This course requires students to make observations on ongoing construction projects with a minimum of 200 hours per semester. The existence of this course is able to train students in making observations and carrying out calculations and designs of cases found during practical work, so that it will provide useful value to the community. In addition, students are also trained to think creatively about the cases they are working on, by conducting independent learning which is useful in honing lifelong learning in the future.

To assist students in understanding management and business concepts, students are given material from general education groups namely Entrepreneurship 1 and Entrepreneurship 2. In these two courses, students are given an explanation of management and business concepts and apply business concepts in the form of assignments to create a business plan according to the scientific field. The task of making a business plan is in the form of a working group and each group is asked to elect a member and team leader involved and formulate the functions of each team for the needs of making a business plan. The existence of this task can train the ability of leadership, cooperation, and organization in working on projects. And an introduction to scientific and ethical certification to become a civil engineering engineer is given when students take introductory civil engineering courses.
